Following is the outline of the inspection and repair of the main engine crankshaft:

I)Inspection of Crankpin/Main Journal: You must thoroughly check the surface geometry of the crankpin or main journal. It including roundness defects, loss of alignment, conicity, barrel shape, surface finish, and other critical parameters.

II) Polishing or undersizing journals and crankpin:

On the basis of surface geometry reports, the available decision is taken in regard to polishing or grinding of the crankpin and main journal. In the event of minor bearing line marks, pitting, or rough surface, it is recommended that these defects be removed only by the process of polishing of crankpin and main journal.

V) We recommend repairing the engine crankshaft when it has severe damage. In such cases, we recondition the journal or crankpin by grinding it to the next undersize, depending on the availability of undersize bearings.
